Pandora Image Viewer

We have many picture viewers on Pandora, most of them directly ported from the Linux world. While most of them are decent, I have always had the same problem with them. They are slow as a dead horse. Note that it’s not just a complaint related to the Pandora, the same viewers are also quite slow even on my all powerful desktop with 4 cores. Thanks to wb, the age of slow picture viewers is over. At least on Pandora.

Reicast is the New Santa

dream

Christmas is almost early this year, Santa is probably still sleeping soundly before he starts working hard in a couple of days, but nevermind Santa, Reicast from drkIIRaziel has shifted the interest all of sudden on this night of the 18th of December. Reicast is a new Dreamcast emulator, originally for Android, running very, very fast. And before you could say “oh, that’s a shame”, a port is already on the way for Pandora.

My Day With The Pandora (ShenMue)

It is really a privilege and an honor for me to have the opportunity to contribute to the Pandoralive series of My Day With Pandora. Ekianjo contacted me one day and asked whether I would like to write something for the series. At first, I was hesitant to accept this for I always have had troubles and lack of courage to write articles that are longer than five sentences. This was one of the reasons why I chose engineering in school BTW). Anyhow, Ekianjo was kind enough and said he would offer me help in terms of correcting my grammar/spelling/complete-the-sentence/etc., as long as I have something to write about. So I thought to myself What the heck, if I screwed up, it’s Ekianjo’s fault.

Weekly Software News Dec 9th to 15th

weekly

Lots of news this week, lots of crappy games as well (thanks to the Crap Game Compo!). More seriously, another fantastic week for the Pandora repo, with Firefox 26 as a guest star, and the first few entries for the Alive and Kicking Coding Competition. I believe the upcoming few weeks are going to be busy with projects, be it games or applications. In the meantime, enjoy the news.

Alive and Kicking Coding Competition

Yeah! I finally managed to insert this cheesy competition picture somewhere! Anyway. I mentioned it in the latest weekly update, we have a new competition going on this year up until February next year, and it’s probably a good time for you to start or complete a project you may have been thinking about recently. You get the pressure of a deadline for increased productivity, as well as the potential reward of prizes !

Weekly Software News Nov 25th to Dec 8th

weekly

I didn’t do an update in the last week as I was just back from vacation and busy with a couple of other things… and maybe I should have spent some time on the update and new releases, since this post now summarizes what happened in the past 2 weeks and there was a lot to showcase. If you were away, just like me, for a couple of days, you may have missed a number of good things. Follow me.

New Resource on Pandoralive : Wallpapers!

top

This was something I had been thinking about for a while, and today I just had the time to do it. So from now on, you can use Pandoralive as a resource to upload and download wallpapers for your Pandora desktop environment, i.e. at the right resolution and aspect ratio: 800 * 480 pixels. Everything is in the new page, called Wallpapers, up on the right.

The Name of the Successor

dragon

There’s been lots of debate on the Pandora boards over the past weeks/months/years about what should the potential Pandora successor be called. Now Evil Dragon has put an end to the suspense by asking people to vote in a poll for their favorite name. The outcome is not really surprising. And the new name is likely to be…

What You Guys Liked on PandoraLive in November

patong

Hey guys, I’m finally back on Pandoralive after one week of vacation (the picture above shows where I was. It was warm and nice. Until I came back…). While I did enjoy my break, I was also eager to get back to writing. Let’s start with a simple post about the most popular articles featured on Pandoralive in the past month. Number 1 is going to be no surprise, but there were some interesting trends in the other ones…
